Effects & Applications of Art-Therapy

Art therapy is based on the premise that creative expression is a fundamental human need. The creative process allows individuals to discover resources that, in turn, can help to release emotional blocks, discover new perspectives and viewpoints, and promote healing processes. Through the creative process life's questions, problems, and potential solutions are encountered. Through the art material it is possible to explore these themes from a safe and supportive position (Rickert, 2015: 9-10).

Art-Therapy collaboration

In a free initial consultation (30-45 minutes), I invite you to explore whether you could benefit from a professional collaboration. We will talk about your goals and wishes, and concrete next steps.

Art therapy can be understood as a form of self-experience and is also very suitable as a complement to psychotherapeutic, clinical-psychological and/or psychiatric treatments.

What happens during an Art-Therapy session?

A session usually begins with a short conversation to clarify the topic or focus for the day. Afterwards, you will have access to various materials – such as different colors, clay, or soapstone – with which you can work freely or following a suggestion. The session concludes with a reflective discussion about what you have created.

Now you know what to expect.

In a free initial consultation (30–45 minutes) we get to know each other and clarify together whether and how a collaboration would be suitable for you.

Individual art therapy

Individual art therapy supports you through psychological distress, life crises, stress, or grief. The focus is on strengthening self-awareness, self-confidence, and personal resources – also preventively, for greater resilience and well-being in everyday life.

Individual stress management

Describe your service here. What makes it great? Use short catchy text to tell people what you offer, and the benefits they will receive. A great description gets readers in the mood, and makes them more likely to go ahead and book.

Is Art-Therapy a recognized form of Psychotherapy?

Currently, art-therapy is not officially recognized among the psychotherapeutic, psychological or medical treatments in Austria and therefore does not replace these forms of treatment.

A separate professional law for art-therapy is currently being planned. In an evaluative report, Gesundheit Österreich GmbH concludes that legal regulation within the framework of healthcare professions is clearly to be supported.

Art-therapy provides sensory-based access to thoughts and feelings that are sometimes difficult to put into words. In a free initial consultation, you will learn how this process can benefit you.

What is art therapy?

Art therapy is based on the premise that creative expression is a fundamental human need. The creative process allows individuals to discover resources that can, in turn, help to release emotional blocks, discover new perspectives and viewpoints, and promote healing processes, for example, after physical illnesses. The person painting unconsciously expresses life's questions, problems, and potential solutions; exploring these themes from a safe and supportive position is made possible through the use of art materials (Rickert, 2015, pp. 9-10).

A professional law for art therapy is currently being drafted. Therefore, in Austria, art therapy is not currently considered a psychotherapeutic or medical treatment. I would be happy to help you find professionals in this field.
